My abstract work is about an exploration of surface and mark making.
I’m attracted to surface texture and have taken many photos of sidewalks, streets and so on. Recently, I’ve combined mono printing, gradated spray painting, textiles and stitching to translate my photos into abstract textile or paper collages.
Using a needle and thread to form stitches creates a mark on fabric or paper, the same way a mark is created using a 6B pencil or a brush and watercolor.
It’s just a heck of a lot SLOWER.
